Flickr

This is the week I have been looking forward to. I've never heard or used Flickr, and until recently had never looked at YouTube. I'd just never had the time or inclination to work out how they worked. So this was a good opportunity to have a play around.

It was easy to register with Flickr with my Google account. And uploading photos seemed quite straightforward. I can see why Flickr could be a really useful tool for friends or family who want to share photos.
I can't see myself using Flickr, either in my professional or personal life. I don't take a lot of photos, as I hate my picture being taken, but this would be good to organize your holiday pictures if you a keen photographer.

Endnote Web

Endnote Web

I have browse the Endnote website and read the blurb about it but i would not be signing up for an account. This website will be very useful for staff and student who are doing research project and writing up disseration and essays.

Zotero

I look at the video the website seem easy to naviagate and understand, I will not be creating an account on this site

Diigo - Managing Information

Diigo

Firstly, I created an Diigo account, but did not receive an activation email. I then had to email the help desk and the person on the other end activated this for me.
Secondly, the instructions lack vital information of how to install the Diigo toolbar.
Thirdly, I could not follow the instructions as they were done for advance users instead of novices.
As I am a novice at this the instructions should be in a form of a step-by-step guide to Diigo and fully illustrated. This was a very frustrating week!
With the help of my colleague and perservance on the Diigo website I was able to install the tool bar and follow the instruction on the Diigo website.

If this is to run again in the future for other colleague, the instructions need to clear and written in a language that a novice can understand not just for the experienced users.
I recommend that the guide for all 23 Thing should be written in a clear and concise manner and in step-by-step instructions that everyone can understand.

Reflection

I am now half-way through -23 Things programme, and getting to grip with Twitter, iGoogle, Doodle and Facebook.
I will use Twitter but Facebook is a no-no as I think this is too intrusive.
I find iGoogle a useful tool to understand and use, with the help of Suzanne i was able to add Twitter gadget on iGoogle which i find easier to navigate.

Hopefully, the next five week will be interesting and rewarding as the first five.

Facebook

I have browse the various libraries on Facebook and found this very interesting.
Facebook is very popular within the wider community, and Libraries have to keep up with student and other users and be up-to-date with all new technology.
I think student expect a lot more from their libraries and will use this as another access into the library catalogue and be able to ask questions to a librarian.
In some aspect using Facebook to interact with the student community might be cost-effective.
Personally, I feel that Facebook is not for me, so I will not be signing up for an account any time soon.

Twitter

I have now created a Twitter account and find quite interesting.
I found some people to follow - 23 Things Participants and talk show host - Oprah Winfrey.
This will help to gain more insight into the twittering world and to understand what the hype is all about.
New and enjoyable adventure hopefully.
